Project Life :: A Week in the Life :: September 2014

This was my first A Week in the Life layout! It was fun choosing a ‘theme’ and I decided that I wanted to try the ‘sherbet colors’ look that using the Rhonna Designs app for iPhones gives. My life isn’t perfect and I’m not into making it look like it’s perfect so I knew this would be interesting. But my life is also a little slow since my kids are just about grown so it was going to be, as all of my Project Life layouts are, All About Me.

My entire color inspiration came from the A Week in the Life card! I just loved it and I didn’t even know the card was in a set I had.

Sherbet-y colors! Yummy.

The first part of my A Life in the Week:

Sunday: The first day of my week. It was about cleaning up party messes. And my cat Chloe, I tried to make it look like it was all her fault, but it wasn’t.

Sunday: My husband congratulates me with a balloon from his birthday. Apparently, I rock because I get to renew my driver’s license through the mail.

Monday: I ate ice cream that I’m not supposed to and I think that’s photo worthy.

Tuesday: First day of Autumn was spent doing lots of chores instead of my list because I was without a car (smog). Ugh.

(I still haven’t finished everything on this list, 2 weeks later)

Tuesday: My son’s artwork was chosen to be used for this Touming Magazine 7″ vinyl. Very exciting!!

And the second half of my A Week in the Life:

Wednesday: I celebrated the First Day of Autumn today since I got my car back. I pulled this shirt out of my ‘get rid of’ bag and decided to wear it and I tackled my huge list. P.S. At the end of the day I remembered why this shirt was in the get rid of bag: it sucks. The collar is limp and it’s ill-fitting. It goes back in!

Classic me motto: Do it anyway. And, yes, I Instagrammed it. My husband and I made these paper feathers. I cut and painted them, and my husband sewed them. I think they came out pretty cool.

Thursday: I went to our pharmacy, cleaned up and decorated for Fall while my husband worked.

Friday: I packed up more of my Creative Memories products that I sold online. At this point, I just want to get rid of what I won’t use! Off to the post office I went. Saturday: I did some things around the house and then went to mass. I heard this reading today and it meant a lot to me on this afternoon. Now if I could just convince this for others…

Saturday: After mass, I went home, helped my son get ready for the dance and I drove him out there. And then in a few hours, I drove back out, picked him up and took him to In and Out for after-dance food. And I sold more of my items so it was a win-win day, week…all of it. My life may be slow and boring but it’s MY slow and boring. And I won’t bother you with another ‘Week in My Life’ again for awhile. You’re welcome!

It was fun, colorful, new, and I had a great time documenting every little bit. Yes, it’s only two pages- I told you my life was slow! 🙂

Paper Feathers, unfinished

I love paper feathers. i have been using them in scrapbook layouts but also as part of gift packaging. I tie them with a string and they make the packages so cute. I will have to photograph the next gift I use one on.

These feather are unfinished. I need to have my husband sew them- he’s better than I am. I used a few papers that I thought will be great for autumn and winter. I used WRMK paper ‘Indian Summer’ as well as other papers. I used gold, silver and black paint as well as Mr. Huey white spray sprinkled and sprayed.

I drew my own feather shapes like I did in one of my first blog posts and then I copied them into three different sizes so they can be layered. I like the way they came out so far!

Washi Tape Feathers

See my Washi Tape Feathers on the next post.

But here’s where I saw the idea:

Washi tape is definitely one of my go-to craft supplies. It’s super versatile, colorful, cute, and easy to use. In honor of this fabulous craft supply I’m dedicating a week’s worth of blog posts full of clever ideas and inspiration for how to use washi tape.

Washi Tape Feathers by Aly Dosdall

I’ll kick things off this week with a tutorial for creating washi tape feathers that you can add to any craft project, be it scrapbook layouts, cards, albums made easy pages, or other paper crafts. These little guys are easy to make and only require a few household supplies.

Start with a twist tie or small strand of craft wire. Add a piece of washi tape to the back, sticky side up. Add another piece directly on top of the first one.

Continue to add more washi tape pieces on each side of the first set until it’s wide enough to cut out and…

Fathers Day: my dad and the men I loved growing up.

The men I love from top to bottom: maternal great-grandpa; my dad and I; my grandpa-in-law; my maternal grandpa; my paternal grandpa, son and I; and my father-in-law. Love and kindness describes them all.

Behind each man is a little tag that can be pulled out and read. Who the person is to me and why I loved them is the info on the tag.

I loved finding all of these elements special for this layout.

The feathers were fun to make.

The Mothers Day and Fathers Day layouts will face each other in my 12×12 album.
